Today in the Black-and-gold links article we take a look at how the newly acquired free agents for the black-and-gold are getting accustomed to their new home in the 412 area code.
Let’s get to the news:
- Since the Steelers are in Phase One of their offseason workouts, it was the first time fans got to see/hear from their newest players via free agency. Donte Moncrief, Steven Nelson and Mark Barron were all on hand and are getting used to their new ‘digs’.

“It is huge for me to be here, be around the guys, and get back to the program,” said Donte Moncrief. “It was very important. I knew I couldn’t miss this. This is getting back to it. I am a new guy, so this is to give the guys a chance to know who I am, how I work, showing the guys I am ready to go.”
Another guy who is ready to go is Steven Nelson. He already got a taste of Pittsburgh last week when one of his first stops was at Primanti Bros. for one of their legendary sandwiches. Now he is getting a taste of what it’s like to be a part of the black and gold, and he likes it.
“I am happy to be here,” said Steven Nelson. “I am happy to be around the guys, get that camaraderie going. This is a time to see the guys. For me, it’s something new. It’s a new atmosphere for me. I think it’s really important to be here.”

- While everyone likes to talk about who the Steelers’ top pick will be in the 2019 NFL Draft, what they aren’t talking about is how loaded Rounds 2 and 3 are at key positions.
Steelers’ Kevin Colbert: NFL draft is strong in Rounds 2, 3

The Pittsburgh Steelers have three picks between Nos. 52-83 in the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft that begins Thursday. According to general manager Kevin Colbert, that’s a good spot to be in.
“This is a draft in which you can feel real good about the players you get in (the second and third rounds),” Colbert said Monday from the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in the annual pre-draft news conference with coach Mike Tomlin.
The Steelers’ own picks in the second and third rounds are Nos. 52 and 83. They acquired the No. 66 pick from the Oakland Raiders as part of the Antonio Brown trade.

ome teams might swear by the famous draft value chart, Kevin Colbert said Monday, but the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t one of them.
With speculation swirling the Steelers are prime candidates to trade up in the first round, Colbert said the organization will attach its own value to certain picks based on the particular player they might be targeting. The Steelers general manager said that might be less than the oft-cited chart says, or it might be more.
“We don’t use a chart, and we know other teams will use a chart,” Colbert said during a joint pre-draft news conference with coach Mike Tomlin at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “And we know when we call them, they are gonna say, ‘Well, it doesn’t match our chart value.’ That’s fine, they can do it. But in our minds, we have to spend what we want to spend to get a certain player, and we (likewise) have to match the demand if teams are trying to trade up to us.”
