The Pittsburgh Steelers have started signing their rookies to their rookie contracts.

It was only a matter of time, but the Pittsburgh Steelers have started to sign some of their nine rookies to their first professional contracts. Since the signing of the newest Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), rookies signing their first contracts are more of a formality than breaking news.

Gone are the days of Sam Bradford cashing in on a lucrative rookie contract without even stepping foot onto an NFL gridiron. It isn’t as if there aren’t negotiations which take place between the player/agent and the team, but the base salaries are slotted based on round drafted, etc. What is negotiable are things like signing bonuses, which sometimes hold up the actual signing of contracts.

Nonetheless, the Steelers have signed two of their three sixth round draft picks in Sutton Smith, linebacker out of Northern Illinois, and Isaiah Buggs, defensive lineman out of Alabama.

With the two late round picks signing on the dotted line, it leaves seven others who have yet to get their deals officially done. Expect those signings to happen soon as the rookies are preparing to come to Pittsburgh for rookie minicamp.

2019 NFL Draft Class:

1 — Devin Bush — Unsigned
3 — Diontae Johnson — Unsigned
3 — Justin Layne — Unsigned
4 — Benny Snell Jr. — Unsigned
5 — Zach Gentry — Unsigned
6 — Sutton Smith — Signed 4-year contract
6 — Isaiah Buggs — Signed 4-year contract
