2019 NFL Draft: Steelers take Diontae Johnson with first 3rd round pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Toledo WR Dionate Johnson with their first 3rd round pick.

Entering the 2019 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a number of draft needs which they needed to address. After the first round selection of Devin Bush, cornerback, wide receiver and even tight end were still positions of need to help the black-and-gold get to the next level in 2019. There have been numerous thoughts and debates regarding what the team will do on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

When the dust settled, the Steelers have selected wide receiver Diontae Johnson from Toledo, with their first pick in the third round of the draft.

For those who may not know much about Diontae Johnson as a player, this is his overall breakdown of his game, per his NFL Draft Profile:

Despite a lack of desired size, Johnson might have the ability to play inside or outside thanks to his speed and ability to elude press from his release. He has basketball athleticism, but his routes will need more focus and less freestyle once he steps up in competition. The athleticism and quickness should allow for a wide range of usage on offense but his hands might always be a concern for him. He’s a little small and wasn’t as fast or quick at the combine as expected, so Day 3 in the draft is his likely landing spot as a WR3/WR4 talent.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft needs in the remaining rounds of the draft now would be considered: Cornerback, tight end, running back among other positions.
