According to fans, the Steelers biggest need in the 2019 NFL Draft is at ILB

The 2019 NFL Draft is here, and according to fans the team’s biggest need is by far at inside linebacker.

The 2019 NFL Draft is upon us, and fans of every NFL franchise are giddy with anticipation of who they will bring in as new talent. While many pour over endless mock drafts looking at specific prospects with a fine toothed comb, others prefer to just look at positional needs.

For the Pittsburgh Steelers and their fan base, it has essentially been a question of which position is a top need for the black-and-gold.

Inside linebacker?

Cornerback?

Wide Receiver?

Recently SB Nation’s FanPulse asked Steelers fans what they thought, and the response was pretty obvious. 61% of voters saw the inside linebacker position as the biggest need for the Steelers moving forward, with cornerback coming behind in second.

What might have been the most shocking when looking at the results of this survey were how few fans thought wide receiver was the team’s biggest need. I get how the thought of wide receiver trumping inside linebacker, a position of need since Ryan Shazier’s traumatic injury in 2017, might sound odd, but the team is now having to replace Antonio Brown’s 15 touchdown receptions he hauled in 2018.

Everyone has their guess as to who, or what position, the Steelers will target in the first round of the draft, but their free agent acquisitions of Donte Moncrief, Mark Barron and Steven Nelson have given them a tremendous amount of flexibility on their roster.

In other words, they aren’t pigeon-holed into staring at one position or prospect, but can see what their board looks like when it is their turn to pick 20th overall. That is, if they remain at 20th and don’t trade out of that spot, but that is another story altogether.
