The NFL Draft is Thursday-Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. Each day leading up to the first round, the Tribune-Review is compiling a positional preview of the top draft prospects.

1. Taylor Rapp

Washington, 6-0, 208

A three-year starter, Rapp declared for the draft after his junior year at Washington. He was a two-time all-conference cornerback after being named the Pac-12 freshman defensive player of the year in his first season on campus. He had seven career interceptions, including two as a junior when he also had five passes defensed and three fumble recoveries. The Pittsburgh Steelers met with Rapp at Washington’s pro day.

While the Steelers have added first-round picks at outside linebacker, safety and cornerback in recent draft classes, in addition to signing free agents to fill other starting spots, they have maintained the status quo in the trenches.

Cameron Heyward is entering his ninth NFL season and seventh as a starter. Stephon Tuitt is preparing for his sixth season and fifth as a starter. Javon Hargrave is entering his fourth season starting at nose tackle.

Even the backups never seem to change. Tyson Alualu signed on for a third (and possibly fourth) season, and Daniel McCullers was brought back for a sixth (and potential seventh).

NFL Draft: Replacing Brown no one-man job

The Steelers have nine receivers on their roster and a notable one who no longer is part of the team.

The problem with the one who is no longer there is he happens to be a guy who set an NFL record last season when he went over 100 catches for a fifth-consecutive season.

Replacing that is no one-man job, as Donte Moncrief told me when I asked him about doing just that earlier this year.

”AB, like anybody knows, is one of the best or is the best to ever play this game. You can’t try to be what he was,” Moncrief replied. “You can only be what you are. I’m going to play the role I can play, make the plays I can make and do whatever makes this team better.”
